In the afternoon of July 20, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tai – Chairman of Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Parks Authority (DEZA) met and worked with representatives of Exxon Mobil Group on the implementation of the Ca Voi Xanh project.

At the meeting, representatives of Exxon Mobil Group expressed their gratitude to Quang Ngai province and DEZA as well for their help in supporting the group in making the report on the environmental impact assessment and the geological survey for the area of gas pipeline located in Dung Quat EZ.
Representatives of Exxon Mobil Group have made a general report, the scope of the project in Dung Quat EZ as well as the demand of the land use. In the coming time, the Group expects DEZA to continue to support the Group in the process of selecting pipeline options, as well as completing the procedures for leasing land.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tai affirmed that Quang Ngai province as well as DEZA will create favorable conditions and support for ExxonMobil Group to deploy the project smoothly and quickly. “DEZA will appoint the leaders of Departments of: the Planning-Construction Management, Investment Management and Natural Resources-Environment Management together with the Group’s experts to conduct a field survey for Groups and enterprises operating in Dung Quat EZ to have a favorable pipeline plan. At the same time, all departments will also actively support the Group to complete the land lease procedures, “said Mr. Tai at the meeting.
The Ca Voi Xanh gas power project (located 88km East of the coast of Quang Nam) was explored by Exxon Mobil Corporation (US). The reserve of this gas field is about 150 billion cubic meters, tripling that of Lan Tay and Lan Do fields under the Nam Con Son gas project, the largest gas field in Vietnam at this time. As planned, Exxon Mobil will build an offshore central platform to remove gas from water, two submarine clusters of exploitation with 8 wells and two 88-km pipelines linking to Chu Lai coast. The gas terminal is located in an area of 1,000ha in Tam Quang commune, Nui Thanh district, in the area of Chu Lai OEZ.

It is the world’s second-largest oil and gas corporation with a daily production of 6.5 million barrels of crude oil. Over the years, Exxon Mobil has agreed to cooperate with Vietnam on oil exploration in the South China Sea.
