Planning of over 85 hectares to build Dung Quat gas-fired power plant.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade recently issued Decision No. 1896/QĐ-BCT dated May 29, 2017, approving the Scheme on “Planning the construction site of Gas Center in central region of Vietnam” including Dung Quat Gas-fired Power Plant, Chu Lai Gas Processing Plant, Chu Lai Gas-fired Power Plant.

Dung Quat Gas-fired Power Plant is planned in the Northwest (near the sea) of Dung Quat Economic Zone, BinhThanh Commune, Binh Son District. It covers an area of ​​about 85.9ha, including the main areas: plant of about 54,7 ha; operation and resting area of ​​about 6.0ha; the others (including port area, pump station and pipeline supply of cooling water; corridor of cooling water pipeline on the sea) about 25.2ha.

Dung Quat gas -fired plant is planned to have an initial capacity of about 1,500 MW, consisting of two combined cycle gas turbine plants. Each plant is expected to have the capacity of 750MW with modern technology.

Plant No. 1with the capacity of 750MW, is expected to operate in the fourth quarter of 2023. The plant No. 2 has the capacity of 750MW, is expected to operate in the second quarter of 2024. In the first phase, both plants of Dung Quat Gas-fired Power Plant will be ordered to supply 220 kV. The total investment in the first phase is about $ 1,787 million.

Dung Quat Gas-fired Power Plant is one of four power plants approved by the Prime Minister to centralize the location of the Gas Centrein Central region of Vietnam in Document No. 1445 / TTg-KTN dated 16/8/2016.

 Accordingly, the shoreline position of the gas stream from the Blue Whale Oil field and gas processing plant will locate in Chu Lai Open Economic Zone (Tam Quang commune, Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam province).

Four gas-fired power plants with total capacity of 3,000 MW (gas used from the Ca voi xanh field). Two plants will be constructed in Dung Quat Economic Zone and two others in Chu Lai Open Economic Zone.

The Ca Voi Xanh field is located about 80 km offshore central Vietnam and is an important natural gas discovery in Vietnam.
