On April 12th, Quang Ngai PPC’s Vice Chairman Dang Ngoc Dung received a delegation of the Electric Power Development Co., Ltd (J-Power), Japan. On behalf of the company, Mr. JAHANA Takashi, Director of the International Business Department for Electricity Development, presented the idea of implementing a thermoelectric project in Dung Quat EZ.
He said that the company would like to carry out surveys and studies to prepare a pre-feasibility report for the construction of a coal-fired thermal power plant in Dung Quat Economic Zone.
The project will be implemented in two phases.
Phase 1, the plant will be constructed with USC technology, with a capacity of up to 2,400 MW; It will be put into commercial operation in 2028. Coal will be imported from Australia, Russia, Indonesia, ect.
Phase 2, the plant will be constructed with IGCC technology, with installed capacity of 2,000 MW; It will be put into commercial operation in 2030.
Company representatives pledged to apply all the best measures to protect the environment as deploying imported coal-fired plants at construction site, including measures to prevent pollution of Gas, water pollution, smoke, dust, noise.
Company leaders also said that the reason for the company’s construction of large-scale coal power plant in Dung Quat EZ, Quang Ngai province is the local deep-seaport which meets standard for large-scale vessels.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman Dang Ngoc Dung highly appreciated the interest of J-Power who many times visited Quang Ngai to seek investment opportunity in Dung Quat site.
He affirmed that the province would always create favorable conditions and co-operate with the investor in the upcoming time.
He also requested the Company to specify the land use area and boundaries of project implementation; total investment; the number of employees serving in the factory and commitment to environmental protection, as well as optimal solutions for air pollution, water pollution, smoke, dust, noise, etc.
After the above comments of the Company, the provincial People’s Committee will have approval for the company survey and research to prepare a pre-feasibility report on investment in construction of coal-fired thermal power plants in Dung Quat EZ.
