Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Parks Authority (DEZA): reviewing the work in 2017 and deploy their mission in 2018

On January 19th, DEZA organized a conference to review the work in 2017 and deploy its mission in 2018.

Attending and chairing the meeting were: Mr. Nguyen Minh Tai_ Member of Standing Committee of Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of DEZA and DEZA’s Chairmen.

In 2017, DEZA focused on coordinating with departments and local authorities to assist investors in solving problems related to the implementation of investment procedures; production and business activities of enterprises, in which paid special attention to large scale projects such as: Hoa Phat Dung Quat Integrated Iron and Steel Complex, the project of the upgrade and expansion of the Dung Quat Oil Refinery, Dung Quat industrial Town, etc. Dealing with delayed projects associated with attracting investments to use recovered land; continuing to streamline the organizational structure and strengthen order, discipline and effectiveness of the political system; supervising the implementation of environmental protection and environmental pollution prevention in Dung Quat EZ and Quang Ngai IPs.

For investment attraction, in 2017, Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Parks has attracted 41 projects with the total investment capital of over US $ 3.12 billion of  which 28 domestic projects with investment capital of over 61,179 billion VND and 13 FDI projects with investment capital of more than US $ 385 million. So far, Dung Quat EZ and Quang Ngai IPs have attracted 258 projects with the total investment capital of more than US $ 11 billion, of which there are 43 foreign projects with the total investment capital of more than 1.37 billion USD and 215 domestic projects with the total investment capital of 186.731 billion VND.

Production and business activities of enterprises in Dung Quat EZ and Quang Ngai Industrial Zones have achieved sustainable developments. Up to now, in Dung Quat EZ and Quang Ngai IPs, 118 enterprises have been operating stably; The value of industrial output and services reached VND 75,840 billion; State budget contribution was VND 12,118 billion; Export turnover reached 320 million USD; Creating new jobs for nearly 3,600 employees. So far, Dung Quat EZ and Quang Ngai Industrial Zones has 33,600 employees, with an average income of about 5 million VND / person / month.

Besides the achievements, in 2017 the investment and development of Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Zones had many challenges: The production and business activities of enterprises in fields of: warehousing, hotel and restaurant service and cement faced many difficulties; compensation and land clearance still entangled, illegal construction and encroachment still occurs haven’t been handled in time, etc.

In 2018, Dung Quat Economic Zone and Provincial Industrial Parks Authority (DEZA) aims to attract US $ 120-150 million investment capital; continue to promote and exploit existing potentials and advantages, such as: deep sea-port system, infrastructure system, and land fund for industrial development.

In the coming time, DEZA will continue to: improve competitiveness in attracting investment through accelerating reform of administrative procedures; review all existing plan to timely adjust and supplement to suit the reality and requirements set in the development process; act as the focal point and promote the formation of the container line at Dung Quat port in order to reduce transportation’s costs and time and contribute to attracting investment into Dung Quat EZ and Quang Ngai IPs; speed up the investment in infrastructure works in economic zones, step by step complete the infrastructure to attract investment; to focus on supporting investors to implement large projects: Hoa Phat Dung Quat Integrated Iron and Steel Complex, the project of the upgrade and expansion of the Dung Quat Oil Refinery, Dung Quat industrial park; closely coordinate with Quang Nam Province, Ministries, central agencies and project investors to bring gas to shore from the Blue Whale gas field; prepare conditions for the implementation of gas-fired power projects in Dung Quat EZ; at the same time concentrate on attracting the industries and domains which Dung Quat EZ and Quang Ngai IPs have comparative advantages, especially those related to the use of deep-water seaports, heavy industry, Infrastructure investment in industrial zones , etc and closely cooperate with VSIP Quang Ngai and Hoang Thinh Dat Group to focus on attracting light FDI projects.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tai, Chairman of DEZA said that Dung Quat EZ and Quang Ngai IPs are entering a new phase with many large projects being implemented. In 2018, DEZA will continue to raise the spirit of determination, unity, creativeness in the performance of duties and public service; try our best to completed the assigned tasks so that Dung Quat EZ and Quang Ngai IPs continue to maintain the leading position of Quang Ngai province and the Central Key Economic Zone.

At the conference, DEZA also commended the collectives and individuals on the excellent achievements in 2017.
